AD-Free Coloring App For Kids

There are SO many apps out there to help keep kids busy and engaged during this stay at home time. Thankfully, I recently found a new coloring app that is an ad-free coloring app for kids. My kids love this app and it really helps to bring out their creative side! More about this coloring app, below!

I am a stay at home mom with an amazing husband and two beautiful children ages 13 and 4. Like so many other households today, we have been adjusting to distance learning and being together all day, every day. As a stay at home mom, you would think that my days wouldn’t be that different between now and before social distancing and stay at home orders. However, that isn’t the case.

During a normal week, my 13-year-old would go to school and then after school team sports practice. My four-year-old and I would participate in multiple activities throughout the week. We would go to storytime at the library, dance class, the playground at the park, travel to away sporting games, and our favorite, playdates!

As anyone with children knows, all of these types of activities are no longer an option. Sure, all of these activities can be modified and still participated in at home, but the in-person, social aspect of being surrounded by friends and sharing in the fun is something that can’t be replaced. As a result, my children are their own main social connections.

If you also have a teenager, you understand that socializing with a four-year-old does not quite fill the in-person social absence of friends associated with stay at home orders. As a result, my 13-year-old is in front of her computer connecting with friends via Face Time or Google Hangouts.

On the other hand, my four-year-old is excited that her big sister is home all the time now! However, she isn’t excited about the alone time her big sister requires to complete her daily schoolwork. If her big sister is home, it’s PLAYTIME!

Now our days are filled with distance learning and participating in a lot of activities to help keep our little one entertained in order to allow for everyone else to get their work done.

We read, color, build Legos, watch TV, play games, hike, and play outside. Thank goodness we live in an area where we can be outdoors and still social distance! I have great admiration for all the parents and caregivers out there that are handling stay at home orders without easy access to the great outdoors.

If your family is anything like mine, you spend a lot of time doing arts and crafts. My living room and dining table are constantly covered in crayons, scraps of paper, glue, scissors, and various other art supplies. Sometimes I feel like I live in an art studio. My children love to color, paint, build, and express creativity through arts and crafts.

We have been painting rocks, decorating pinecones, sculpting with clay, drawing with chalk in the driveway, making edible play dough, and building forts. These activities are fun and can keep our children occupied and happy for hours. However, problems arise when it is too cold, rainy, or snowy (yes, it snowed at our house last week) to be outside for any duration of time.

That means it is time to be inside where the lure of electronics is enormous. I am guilty of using electronics, especially the television, to entertain my four-year-old so I can get some household chores completed.

For example, as I write this she is playing a video game. I try to keep playing and interacting with her while I do tasks that take longer, like making dinner. We have spent countless hours pretending to be some of her favorite characters while I cook and she plays with toys while acting out the story we are telling. There are times that my four-year-old asks to watch a program on television or play a video game while I did household chores.

My husband and I are always searching for appropriate apps for our children that are well-made and aren’t riddled with ads. It is very frustrating for a four-year-old to try to play a game that is constantly interrupted by ads.

Fortunately for us, my husband is a former Disney software executive and has always been an extremely talented software engineer. When we were unable to find a good, fun, easy to use, and AD-Free Coloring App For Kids, my husband built one. The result of his and our children’s collaboration is ColorWorks.

It’s free for basic use and also has additional content that can be unlocked. As a mom, the added bonus of education helps to ease the guilt of having my children looking at a screen. Coloring helps to develop fine motor skills, spark imagination and creativity and the younger users can work on their number and letter recognition as well. In my eyes, any educational help that is disguised as a game is a winner!

If you are looking for a unique method for your kids to stay in touch with family and friends, ColorWorks can also help. Any creations can be saved and shared.

My children love to create a picture and then share it with our family and friends. My 13-year-old likes to ‘color outside the lines’ and create and design her own pictures, while my four-year-old tends to color the unicorns and puppies on this fun, AD-Free Coloring App For Kids!

They both love to add their personalities to their creations by using drawing tools and stamps. The end result is a one-of-a-kind creation that any family member or friend would love to receive!
